SUPPORTED DECISION MAKING AND GUARDIANSHIP ASSISTANCE
Families have various options available when planning their children's future, including guardianship and supported decision-making. Services to explain the options and complete the guardianship process if that is appropriate for their youth. Sliding fee scale for services. WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS
Parents and children with disabilities have specific rights guaranteed under Part B and C of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. I can help parents, guardians, or foster parents understand their rights and obligations under IDEA. IDEA/Section 504 and IEP workshops are offered in the summer and fall, free to families. There is a nominal cost for professionals. Agencies can request the workshop for the families they serve. Families have various options available when planning for their children's future, including guardianship and conservatorship. Workshop on Supported Decision Making (SDM), Alternatives and Guardianship. It's a two-day session, consisting of Session 1 on SDM and guardianship, and Session 2 on how to complete guardianship documents. Other topics: Autism 101, Understanding ADHD, Myths and Truths about People with Disabilities, Disability Etiquette, How to Advocate for your Child, Raising a Child with Disabilities, and Understanding the Grief Cycle. The cost of workshops and training is negotiable; however, mileage and hotel reimbursement are required for those located outside the Denver metro area. SPECIAL EDUCATION CONSULTING
Education consulting is available for parents seeking support with Section 504 Plans and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Services include document review and preparation guidance prior to school meetings, with the goal of helping parents feel confident and equipped to advocate for their children. Services include general mental health counseling and offense-specific treatment for adults with or without intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
